Yoga Is More About The Flexibility Of Your Mind Than Your Muscles
Technically speaking, yoga is a scientific system that’s 2,000 – 5,000 years old (depending on who you ask) meaning to join, unite, or yolk. Hatha yoga, which is the primary type of yoga I teach, is about balance. Ha means sun and tha means moon. It’s a practice that helps us witness opposing forces and bring them together. For example, it helps to bring balance between strength and flexibility of the body as well as the masculine and feminine energy in all of us. It asks us to exert effort while also bringing ease into each pose.
There is an 8 limb yoga system that was created by a wise sage named Patanjali. The 8 limbs are basically a guide for living a meaningful, healthy life. Hatha yoga focuses on 3 of the 8 limbs of yoga: postures (asana), breath work (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana). When practiced on a consistent basis, these techniques can bring transformation to your life both on and off the mat.
What Yoga Is To Me
It’s a system that helps us find ourselves. It unites everything – the body, mind, and spirit – breath and movement – individuals with all living things. It’s a way to receive what we need and release what no longer serves us. It’s a way to build strength, flexibility (of the mind and body), courage, self-acceptance, love, and intuition. It’s a way to face and overcome vulnerability, doubt, fear, and the ego. It’s adaptable to serve all people. It’s a ticket to aging with vitality.
