This pose is great for building stamina and strength. It’s also a great pose to play with active and passive energy. Once you use your muscles to put your body in position, trying bringing a sense of ease to the body using nice deep breaths and a steady gaze/mind to avoid rigidity.

Iyengar said, “mastery of the standing poses prepares the pupil for the advanced poses in forward bending, which can then be acquired with ease.” Let’s all nail the foundational poses!
